Fred Cota

Fred Cota was born and raised in the greater Santa Barbara area. In the late 60’s he joined the US Naval Reserve. After a year of reserve duty, he went on active duty with six (6) months of NAVY A school then off to the Pacific fleet. After a week in Japan the ship sailed south to Vietnam. In the next months he saw most of the Vietnam coast line from south of Saigon to Haiphong Harbor in North Vietnam.
At the end of active duty, he came back to Santa Barbara and worked for the local Reserve recruiter and went back to SBCC. In the mid 70’s he got a full-time job at KEYT doing many different jobs. In the 80’s he moved to SBRC (part of Hughes Aircraft) then Raytheon. After his first retirement he went to work for FTI Services (a local IT service and consulting company).
Now in retirement he is the Vice Commander of the American Legion post 49 in Santa Barbara.
He is also active with the local AMVETS, VFW, Vietnam Veterans of America and the local DAV.
